How to perform a system restore with Redwax Cloud Backup - Advanced from MS Windows System Backup?

    To perform a system restore with Redwax Cloud Backup MS Windows System Backup:

    1. Restore the Windows image file(s) from the Redwax Cloud Backup server, or attach the hard disk containing the image file(s) located (in the temporary storage location):

      • To restore the Windows image file(s) from the AhsayOBS server:

        1. Start the Redwax Cloud Backup - Advanced application

        2. Select the Restore button on the left panel of the Redwax Cloud Backup - Advanced user interface

        3. Select the MS Windows System backup set, and then image file(s) you want to restore

      • To restore the Windows image file(s) from the Temporary Storage Location:

        This method assumes that the Windows image files are stored on a dedicated volume for storage and was not removed

        1. Attach the hard disk previous used for the Windows image file(s) to the machine to be restored


    2. To restore the system / volume:

      • Boot to the Windows Recovery Environment with the Windows installation media, or start the Windows Server Backup Management console according to your situation:

        • The first method is to boot to the Windows Recovery Environment and perform the restore. To view instruction for restore using this method, please refer to Step 3 by Clicking Here

        • The second method is to start Windows Server Backup Management console in Windows. This option is to restore a volume, individual file(s), while running inside of Windows using the console.

    3. To restore the system / volume by booting to the Windows Recovery Environment:

      1. Insert the installation media (e.g. installation CD) into the machine to be restored, startup the machine

        Note:
        It may be necessary to press a key during boot to boot from the installation media (e.g. installation CD) or to bring up a boot menu that allows you to select the CD-ROM drive as the boot device. You may also need to change the boot priority in your system's BIOS settings so that it will check for a bootable CD before booting to the hard disk. Refer to your computer's documentation for more information.

      2. Select the appropriate settings for: 

        • Language
        • Time and currency format
        • Keyboard or input format

      3. In the next page, select the Repair your Computer option from the lower left corner of the console

      4. From the System Recovery Options page, choose to load any drivers required by your hard disk at this stage. After loading the driver(s) if necessary, such as RAID drivers, click Next

        Note:
        If you are performing a system restore to a brand new hard disk, you will not see any Operating Systems listed as shown on the right. Whereas if you are restoring a backup to a machine that already has Windows 2008 installed, then it will be listed under Operating Systems.


      5. Under the System Recovery Options page, select the System Image Recovery option

      6. Windows will then scan the system for available backups

        Note:
        Please ensure that the media with the image file(s) is connected to the machine. If Windows is unable to find the backup, please try un-connecting and re-connecting the backup device


      7. Select the backup to restore and click Next

      8. In the Choose how to restore your backup page, the following options are available:

        • Install Drivers, to install any drivers for the disk you are restoring to
        • Exclude disks, to exclude disks that you don't want formatted
        • Advanced, to restart the computer after the restore process and to automatically check and update error information

        Configure the extra options as necessary, click Next

      9. Confirm the settings and click Finish

      10. You will be prompted to confirm if you want to format the disks and restore the backups you have chosen, click OK

    4. To restore the system / volume by using the Windows Server Backup Management console:

      1. From the Start menu, click Administrative Tools, and then click Windows Server Backup

      2. In the Actions pane of the snap-in default page, under Windows Server Backup, click Recover

      3. On the Getting Started page, select one of the following and then click Next:

        • Click This server

        • Click Another server, on the Specify Location Type page, do one of the following and then click Next:

          • Click Local drives -
            • On the Select Backup Location page, select the volume or drive that contains the backup from the drop-down list
            • On Select Server, select the server whose data you want to recover

          • Click Remote shared folder -
            • On the Specify Remote Folder page, type the path to the folder that contains the backup

      4. On the Select Backup Date page, select the date from the calendar and the time from the drop-down list of backup you want to restore

      5. On the Select Recovery Type page, click Volumes, and then click Next

      6. On the Select Volumes page, select the check boxes associated with the volumes in the Source Volume column that you want to recover

      7. From the associated drop-down list in the Destination Volume column, select the location that you want to recover the volume to. Click Next. 


      8. On the Confirmation page, review the details, and then click Recover to restore the specified volumes

      9. On the Recovery Progress page, you can view the status of the recovery operation and whether or not it was successfully completed


    5. All volume(s) restored successfully
